Artist’s Statement
I was born in 1956 and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I began taking pictures as a small child. The very first thing I ever purchased for myself was a tiny camera from a comic book.
At age twelve I started to write poetry. Throughout my life I have always been attracted to art, literature and imagery. Keeping journals and chronicling photographs has been a matter of course for me.
When I work with photos I am reminded that all things exist in memory.
Poetry comes naturally to me, but creating images involves capturing shapes, lines, light and shadow in a particular way, then tying together the key geometries. I develop my own interpretations, coloring and creating effects to enhance a photo so that it will reflect my dreamscape. When I am working, I feel I am communing with ‘Source Energy,’ and able to perceive my subject in an astral form.
My expressions are about connection and communication with the inner light.
As an Associate and graphic artist for ‘North American Artworks’, I designed promotions, advertisements, web pages and organized Art Exhibitions for five years. In 2001, I became CEO and President of ‘Astral Wilderness Art Galleries’, an Internet based gallery featuring local and international Artists. Astral Wilderness was profiled in such magazines as ‘Art World’ and ‘Art Business News.”
As a Poet, I have read poetry and performed dramatic monologues for over two decades. My poems have been published in ‘Philadelphia Poets’ and Magical Blend’ magazine.
I am self taught and widely researched; my style comes from a deep affinity for ancient history, pre-Columbian art and world cultures. My artwork and poetry are interwoven and fill me with a sense of joy and timelessness.
